F1 Dress Code: What to Wear to a Formula 1 Race
From the grandstand to the Paddock Club: what the rules really say, and five race-day looks for heat, wind and night races.

Two race-day formulas: high-slit flared pants for the Paddock Club and a red satin halter with wide-leg pants.
There is no dress code in the grandstands at a Formula 1 race. The F1 Paddock Club asks for smart casual: no tracksuits, shorts or beachwear, and closed-toe shoes for the pit lane walk. The easiest look is tailored trousers with a blazer or an elegant top, low shoes and one extra layer for wind or a night race.
A Grand Prix weekend is a long day on your feet. You walk between the fan zone, the grandstand and the hospitality suites, you queue for the pit lane walk, and if you are lucky you end the night at an after-race party. The outfit has to work for all of it: look polished in photos, survive heat or wind, and let you climb stairs and stand on concrete for hours. Below is what the dress code actually says, five looks we would wear ourselves and a guide to each remaining race of the 2026 season.
Is there a dress code at a Formula 1 race?
It depends on your ticket. General admission and grandstand seats have no dress code at all. Hospitality is different: the official guidance for the F1 Paddock Club is smart casual, and the 2026 Paddock Club guest information asks guests not to wear tracksuits, shorts or beach attire. Team hospitality follows the same line. McLaren’s guest terms, for example, set the dress code as smart casual, exclude beachwear and sportswear, and warn that guests who ignore it may be refused entry.

What does smart casual mean in the Paddock Club?
For women, smart casual at Formula 1 means a polished daytime outfit, not an evening gown. Think tailored trousers or a midi skirt, a blazer or an elegant top, and flat or low shoes. The Paddock Club sits above the pit garages, so there are cameras, sponsors and team guests all day: a clean silhouette in one or two colours photographs better than a busy print.
Our rule of thumb: if you would wear it to a long business lunch on a terrace, it works in the Paddock Club. Add one statement detail, such as pleated sleeves, an open back or a red accent, and keep the rest calm.
Dress for the pit lane walk, not only for the photo. If you cannot stand in it for six hours, it is the wrong outfit.

The trouser suit: safest choice for the Paddock Club
A matching blazer and trousers answers the smart casual question in one move. The Eclair suit pairs a cropped blazer with long pleated sleeves and high-waisted flared pants with side slits, so it looks tailored but moves when you walk. Wear it with pointed loafers or low block heels; the flare covers most of the shoe.
Prefer a longer jacket? The Fitted Blazer Eclair covers the hips and closes with a belt.

Satin halter and wide-leg pants: the red accent
Red is the colour of the sport, and a single red piece reads as a nod to the race without looking like fan merchandise. A satin halter with an open back and fluid wide-leg pants is light enough for heat and smart enough for hospitality. Throw a cropped blazer over the shoulders for air-conditioned suites.
Want more coverage? Swap the halter for the One-Shoulder Satin Blouse Rosalie with a scarf.

Abu Dhabi · Qatar · Singapore · Monaco
Pleated wide-leg pants: built for heat
In desert and tropical races you need to stay covered and cool at the same time. Pleated wide-leg pants let air move around the legs, pack easily and look dressed-up with a simple top. Shell pants are made of satin (60% viscose, 40% polyester) with chiffon panels in the pleats. Add the pleated cape when the sun goes down.
In Gulf countries, cover the shoulders in public areas outside the circuit; a cape or blazer solves it in seconds.

Las Vegas · Silverstone · Spa · Interlagos
The long trench: night races, wind and rain
The Las Vegas Grand Prix runs at night in late November, when the desert gets cold, and British and Belgian weather changes by the hour. A long trench over trousers keeps you warm in the grandstand and still looks smart when you take it off indoors. The Amber trench has a pleated back that moves when you walk.
Bring a small umbrella only if you have a covered seat: umbrellas block views in open grandstands.

Yachts · galas · Monaco and Abu Dhabi evenings
After the race: a satin dress for the party
Evening events around a Grand Prix are where cocktail and evening wear belong. A satin halter maxi dress folds into a suitcase next to your race-day outfit and works with flat sandals on a yacht or heels at a gala. Throw a sharp blazer over the shoulders when the evening cools.

What to wear at each Grand Prix

What shoes should you wear to Formula 1?
Closed-toe flat or low shoes. The Paddock Club guest guide asks for closed-toe shoes for track activities such as the pit lane walk, and lists boots, sneakers, ballet flats and loafers as suitable. You will also walk several kilometres across a circuit in one day, often on grass or gravel. Save stilettos for the evening, and choose a trouser length that works with flat shoes: wide-leg and flared pants are forgiving here.
What not to wear to a Formula 1 race
- Tracksuits, running shorts and other sportswear in hospitality areas
- Beachwear, even at sunny races and on the way from a yacht
- Open-toe shoes or very high heels if you are booked on a pit lane walk
- A full outfit of team merchandise in the Paddock Club; one accessory is plenty
- Long trailing scarves or loose pieces near the track and garages

F1 dress code: questions and answers
What is the dress code for the F1 Paddock Club?
The official dress code for the F1 Paddock Club is smart casual. Guests are asked not to wear tracksuits, shorts or beach attire, and closed-toe shoes are required for track activities such as the pit lane walk. For women, tailored trousers with a blazer or an elegant top are the safest choice.
Is there a dress code in the grandstands at Formula 1?
No. Grandstand and general admission tickets have no dress code. Dress for the weather and for a long day of walking: layers, sun or rain protection and comfortable closed shoes.
Can I wear a dress to a Formula 1 race?
Yes, but a daytime midi or a trouser look is more practical than an evening gown, because you will walk and climb stairs all day. Keep long and satin dresses, such as the REPULO’S Bree halter maxi, for yacht parties, galas and after-race events.
Can I wear heels to the Paddock Club?
Low block heels are fine in the suite, but closed-toe flat shoes are required for the pit lane walk and are far more comfortable on a circuit. Loafers, ballet flats, boots and smart sneakers all work.
What should I wear to the Las Vegas Grand Prix?
The Las Vegas Grand Prix is a night race in late November, and desert nights are cold. Wear a trouser look with a long coat or trench, such as the REPULO’S Amber maxi trench, closed shoes and a warm layer you can remove indoors.
What should I wear to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
Abu Dhabi is warm by day and mild in the evening. Light satin or pleated wide-leg trousers with an elegant top work at the circuit, with a cape or blazer to cover the shoulders off-circuit, and a satin dress for the after-race parties.
